An interview with... Emmily!

This is now the fifth interiew already. This time it's with Emmily from southern California. I'm not telling anything more, because if you want to know more, read this interview. Read it and fall in love with her style and personality.

Tell us something about yourself
Hello hello, my name is Emmily Shaw (yes I have 2 “m”s) and I currently live in southern california and have all 21 years of my life. As far as occupation goes I’m balancing working at Banana Republic, selling headbands on etsy (greyowl.etsy.com), run a vintage shop (greyowlvintage.etsy.com) and going to school full time for Graphic Design.

What does fashion and beautiful clothes mean to you?
Fashion is truly expression of your character. Being who you are, and being comfortable with yourself. But at the same time having fun with it! What I get most out of fashion is the artistic character behind it.

How would you describe your personal style?
Shopping at thrift shops has probably played one of the biggest roles of my style development. It started off just being broke, but I discovered I loved all the unique and one of a kind pieces of clothing I found. But I don’t really know what genre you would categorize me in. I think I have a new mix of styles every day.
Photobucket
Which item in your closet couldn’t you live without?
Tights, leggings, and shoes…just the basics. Without those I feel like my ability to put outfits together is hindered. I have a lot of clothes and I bet if you stole from my closet I wouldn’t even notice. Haha. But if you stole my basic things I would, because I wear them so often.
Photobucket
For what piece of clothing that hangs in your closet, do you feel the most ashamed of?
I have a pair of really hideous pajama pants I made when I was in high school. I made them before Christmas and the fabric has Christmas bells all over it. haha
Photobucket
Do you often have miss-buys or do you wear everything you buy?
Every now and again. But for the most part I wear what ever I buy. One thing I never wear is things that I have to alter. I never have time to go back and sew them, so they sit in my closet for forever.
Photobucket
Did you ever have the feeling you wanted to fit in as for clothing, because you don’t look like the average person you see walking on the street?
No. The average person’s style bores me. Not to say I think other people should change, it’s just not what I would want to wear. I look at fashion as an art form, and so for me I like to play around, and experiment with it.
Photobucket
Did you ever had unpleasant comments on your clothing, and if so, how did/do you deal with it?
Haha YES! Things like “I like your costume”, “what are you dressed up for?”, and my favorite “Halloween is over!” I usually just laugh. I’ve never gotten seriously offended.

Maybe tips for the people who want to wear their own style, but are afraid?
Ah, don’t be afraid guys. Fashions all about having fun. It’s too exhausting to always be concerned what people think.
Photobucket
What is your favorite trend right now?
I usually don’t really follow trends too often. But right now I love all the floral and colors spring is coming out with.

Which trend do you think is awful?
Ugg boots. Its one thing to wear around the house, but generally I’m not a fan.
Photobucket
Do you have a fashion-icon? Or a website where you get inspiration?
Fashion influences me through so many different outlets. Fashion blogs such as lookbook, hel-looks, and other street fashion sites are my favorite. But other things that play a big role are things such as movies, magazines, art, music, and just people I see walking around on the street.
My younger sister is also very stylish. I told her about this interview and that I thought she was one of my fashion icons. She laughed at me, but I was serous. It seems like she is always experimenting with things that I don’t even think about, pushing it to the next level. And I think any innovation in fashion is inspiring.
Photobucket
What would you never, but then also never wear on the fashion area?
I’m not a fan of floor length dresses and skirts, and I don’t like to wear multiple obnoxious colors together… unless that was the goal. Haha.
Photobucket
Is there something you would like to say to the people who read this?
Hope you really like this interview!
